Nobody can have failed to miss the new advert featuring hard man Vinnie Jones giving CPR to a man to the beat of the Bee Gees classic ‘Staying Alive’. Even though this ad is humorous, with Vinnie doing the hard man act that has made so popular in cinemas, there is a very serious message behind it. If you see somebody who has collapsed and isn’t breathing, forget the kiss of live, and give hands only CPR.

This massive campaign comes courtesy of the BHF, British Heart Foundation, and aims to get the message out there that anyone who hasn’t been trained in CPR and goes to assists someone should only use hard and fast compressions in the centre of the chest. As regular rhythm is vital, they say that humming the tune to ‘Staying Alive’ will help you get a regular pattern going, which could save somebody’s life.

Getting someone as instantly recognisable as Vinnie to front this campaign was a stroke of genius, and he really gets act how anyone can do these compressions efficiently, and possibly save a life. It’s a sad fact that only 10% of people who suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital survive, mainly due to the fact that people don’t know what to do apart from call 999, but if CPR is done immediately their survival rate soars.

The BHF are using the campaign to ensure everyone knows to forget the kiss, if someone collapse then by calling 999 and starting these compressions, you are giving them the best chance of surviving. Stand back and do nothing except wait for the ambulance is effectively signing that person’s death warrant.

This is not about being a hero; this is about how a simple act that anybody can do can save lives. Hopefully, thanks to the BHF and Vinnie, a lot more lives will now be saved through hard and fast CPR.

What do you get if you combine one of the biggest companies in the UK and one of the funniest men around at the moment? The answer is on our TV screens now; the latest ad for Kellogg’s featuring Rob Brydon. As part of the £13m marketing campaign that first hit our screens last December, the latest ad sees the comedic actor take the part of Bruce Bowls, the presenter of a breakfast TV show who loves Crunchy Nut Clusters.

These kinds of adverts, when in the wrong hands, can come across as embarrassing rather than funny, not so the Kellogg’s/Brydon collaborations. There is virtually no dialogue in this latest offering, just Brydon doing what he does best, being visually funny without needing to speak.

The great Top Gun tune from the 1980′s, Take my breath away, is the background music as Brydon ‘dances’ and gesticulates to a gorgeous brunette eating Crunchy Nut Clusters. The camera pans between his movements and general antics and the girl with the cereal, who is eating her clusters very seductively as she obviously thinks it is her that Bowls is lusting after.

After a balletic leap from a table they are finally in the same scene, and he ignores her completely and takes the bowl of cereal. There have been many successful Kellogg’s campaigns featuring famous faces, including the likes of Jonathan Ross and Ian Wright, but casting Rob Brydon was a stroke of genius. He is one of the most recognisable faces in British entertainment, and one of the most popular.

The marriage between him and Kellogg’s has led to one of the most popular marketing campaigns of recent times, and helped to keep Kellogg’s ahead of the game despite recent tough times in the economy. Hopefully there are more of these ads to come to brighten up the forthcoming dark, wintry days.

Coronation Street, Eastenders, Emmerdale are the three most popular ones, and such huge exposure has turned their stars into household names. These shows attract literally millions of viewers, the majority of which are women, and they have a huge impact in many people’s lives.

An ideal example of this concerns the actress Pauline Quirke, currently starring in Emmerdale. After always being a larger lady, Pauline has gone on a rigorous diet and lost nearly 6 stone in weight. As she is on the small screen every night bar weekends, it is impossible to ignore the change in her appearance. This has invariably led to stacks of publicity and every magazine and many TV shows are talking about her weight loss.

This is a familiar story for any other females in soaps who change in appearance somehow. If a soap actress has clearly had a cosmetic procedure, of lost lots of weight, or even had a radical haircut, their fans want to know about it. The viewing public empathise with these characters and welcome them into their home like old friends, and often want to copy them in an attempt to improve their lives.

'Do they or don't they' is often the question on everyone's lips when it comes to celebrities, no more so than when debating whether celebrities have gone under the plastic knife or been given a thick lip or two with Botox.

The latest celebrity to 'come out' and own up to using Botox is Nicole Kidman. The question 'who did she think she was trying to kid' was, of course on everyone's lips, not just her own. It's not as if we hadn't suspected. Anyone who can be that rigid on screen must be using something to control their forehead. After years of being in denial, she has finally come clean and admitted that she no longer uses it. Stop the presses.

Clearly, she was never planning to come out. It's just that Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox came out as Botox best buddies. Apparently, they no longer use it either. Then again, it's strange that these celebrities have come out and said that they don't do something. If they are not doing that, it makes you wonder what they are doing. Maybe they have found some youthful elixir that will keep them forever young, or they have made a pact with the devil, or both.

Terri Hatcher, formerly of 'Superman' fame, went one step further when she took photos of her Botox-free face and posted them on Twitter. As you do. I wonder what she has for breakfast. It would appear then, that she is not such a desperate housewife after all. She is clearly quite content to grow old gracefully and let the best parts go to younger actresses.

There has to be a film in there somewhere. Maybe even two films. One made entirely with actors and actresses using Botox, one without. It would be interesting (or not) to see the differences between the two, to see whether the players were more wooden with Botox or without, or whether it didn't make a scrap of difference.

Fortunately for us (relatively) normal people, there are people out there who have never gone near the stuff. Allegedly. Take Julia Roberts. Please. Apparently she never uses it, preferring the natural look and she has landed lots of lead roles in the last few years.
