We have recently been stunned by the appearance of Kate Winslet and her impressive curves, but it seems that it was all an optical illusion. She was wearing a Stella McCartney dress with cleverly positioned paneling which flattered Kate’s shape, and at the same time gave her a very impressive bust and a super slim waist.

This type of garment is now moving further down, and the online hosiery retailer Tightsplease.co.uk are awaiting their stock of clever tights to arrive, and these give the impression that the wearer has longer slimmer legs. Pretty Polly’s Slimming Effects Tights have been printed with subtle shading which results in legs seeming to have an altogether slimmer silhouette, as well as them appearing perfectly proportioned.

While these may seem very new and inventive, hosiery trickery is certainly nothing new. During WWII, nylon was only used to make parachutes and hosiery was like gold dust, so women would stain their legs with gravy browning, shoe polish or tea, and then enlist a friend to draw a line down the back to give the impression they were wearing seamed stockings.

Their eyes would pop if they could see the technical advances that have been made in the manufacture of hosiery, and that computer led design allows 21st century women to simply pull on a pair of tights to achieve perfect pins. You can pre-order your Slimming Effect Tights now at Tightsplease, they are available in one size and they cost £12.50 a pair.

The British woman’s figure is shifting again. The high street firm, Debenhams reported that the British ideal of the perfect woman is on the move once more.

One shape has dominated British thought regarding women for 50 years now, the thin, tall, slender hips. Now, though, that old-fashioned Jane Russell look is swinging back around. That shape is the hourglass figure, or so the sales reflect its popularity.

Sale for shapely women’s wear top off at 225% in 2010. These were clothes that cast the ideal woman’s silhouette.

Michelle Dowdall, spokesperson for Debenhams admitted, “Large breasts, tiny waists, and wide hips are pushing their way back into the market and into the UK mainstream.”
“We’re returning to an age when all women looked like Jane Russell, Ava Gardner and Rita Hayworth.

“It’s bad news for stick thin models – but great news for ordinary women on the street with healthy, fuller figures.”

Debenhams believes the trend towards ample proportions may have been inspired by recent hit TV series Madmen. The increasing popularity of music by singers such as Duffy and Paloma Faith who base their image on 1950s style film stars may also be having an effect.

However there is also evidence to suggest that the definition of feminine beauty is cyclical. Nude body forms chosen by artists and painters across the last two centuries have alternated between thinner and fuller figures every fifty or sixty years, experts say.

Since thin female bodies have been popular since the 1960s, this trend, combined with Debenhams sales figures, suggests that Britain may on the cusp of change. A propensity for hour glass figures would have a dramatic impact upon the clothes and fashions worn by women in the future, says Debenhams.

An hour glass figure demands sharp, tailored clothes which define the body’s curves rather than hide it. Pencil skirts, fitted jackets and strapless dresses would all rise in popularity – a major shift away from today’s boyish, androgynous styles. Deep v-neck sweaters, tight fitting blouses – and good underwear hiding bumps and lumps will also become even more essential.

Michelle Dowdall continued: “We’re watching this development very closely because it could have a major impact upon fashion in the future.

“Like all good businesses we look at trends way ahead, so if hour glass figures are going to return – and current evidence suggests that they are – then we need to begin planning for that major change now.”

Current popular hour glass figure icons include Christina Hendricks, Nigella Lawson, Scarlet Johansson and Salma Hayek”

Discover how colours can change the way you look and feel this Christmas and which Celebrity is wearing them best!

Do you need some stamina and energy to get through the day or are you feeling really stressed and unable to cope, under the weather or recuperating from an illness?

As the Christmas period approaches, some of us welcome it and others just dread it! Colour can help through emotionally supporting us at this time of the year and it can also help us look great for all those festive activities! Jules Standish, Celebrity Colour Consultant www.colourconsultancy.co.uk gives us some of her top colour tips to see us through the season.

Red is sexy and romantic and if you want to get noticed at Xmas parties then wear it in abundance! Red increases energy levels through releasing adrenaline, so if you need a boost then this is the colour for you! However, avoid too much red on Xmas day when relationships need to be harmonious as red can also be confrontational. Wear a gorgeous red dress or surround yourself with red decorations and plants.

Holly Willoughby looks lovely in pink red, Cheryl Cole looks stunning in bright red and Katy Perry smoulders in dark burgundy red.

Are you feeling the Xmas strain, stress levels running high? Then get into some blue! It releases oxytocin a hormone that relaxes the nervous system. Get some peace and calm by wearing the shades of blue that suit you – as the colour of communication it’s also great to wear at job interviews or making speeches.

Denise Van Outen looks pretty in pale blue, Katie Price tanned and dynamic in turquoise and Dita Von Teese looks classic and sultry in navy.

Feeling run down, fighting off some lurgy? Green is the natural balancer and a great colour to wear to keep you fit and well over the busy Xmas period, as it helps to strengthen the system. Wear a green scarf or go for a walk in nature, alternatively eat some greens!

Cameron Diaz has the skin tone for mint green, Kate Moss suits lime and Nigella Lawson’s cool tones are enhanced with deep emerald.

Need to keep the peace this Xmas? Then purple is the colour of choice. “Psychologist Sue Firth, author of ‘More Life-less Stress’ www.yourwhealth.com feels that the best colour to wear at Christmas is purple. Purple is the colour of Psychology and helps keep people calm and harmonious when meeting again after a prolonged time apart or for keeping us peaceful in a difficult family atmosphere”

Pale purple suits Angelina Jolie, whilst Danii Minogue looks radiant in the warm shades and Kirsten Stewart amazing in rich dark purple.

Need some confidence for all those parties over Xmas? Orange is a wonderfully sociable and joyous colour and helps to liberate our emotions and disperse fears as well as helping with tiredness and depression. If it’s too warm a colour for your skin tone, then drink orange juice, eat some peaches and get into some lovely coral coloured underwear!!

Coral is a beautiful colour for red heads with pale skin-tone like Nicola Roberts, bright orange makes golden skins glow like Jennifer Aniston’s and orange red is stunning on Beyonce’s dark skin.
