Avoid those mince pies to stay in shape over Christmas

The traditional fayre we put away during the Christmas period is notoriously laden with calories, and it will come as a shock to many that eating just one little mince pie every day during the run up to Christmas can result in a weight gain of approximately 1lb. This will make that special Christmas outfit rather snug before you attack the turkey, and over the holiday period most of us will gain at least 1.1lbs, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that we have to shop for a bigger size come the January sales.

Keeping active and an eye on your calorie intake is the best way to avoid an expanding waistline.  Living Streets is the charity that works to create safe, attractive and enjoyable streets for people to walk, and to promote walking over the festive season, we’ve created a mince pie calculator.

The Living Streets Mince Pie Calculator www.livingstreets.org.uk/mincepiecalculator lets you see at a glance the number of calories you can burn off walking and the equivalent number of mince pies.  Walking is easy to build into your daily routine, costs nothing and just walking part of the way home from work, or walking to the shops can help off-set any pre-Christmas indulgences.
