BBC presenter Louise Minchin taking part in Macmillan Cycletta Cycling Series

BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin is getting on her bike again for this year’s Macmillan Cycletta, the UK’s leading series of Women only bike rides. Louise will be showing her pedal power along with thousands of women across the UK as she takes on the 50km distance at the series’ Cheshire event in September.

This is the second year that Louise has taken part in Macmillan Cycletta, which is open to women of all ages and ability, and includes distances ranging from 20km for novices up to 150 km for cyclists looking for more of a challenge.

Almost five thousand women across the UK took part in Macmillan Cycletta last year, many of them choosing to raise vital funds for Official Charity Partner, Macmillan Cancer Support in the process.

Louise, whose sporting prowess includes participating in triathlons, is looking forward to being part of another Macmillan Cycletta event. She said:

“I am delighted to be jumping on my bike again for this year’s Macmillan Cycletta in Cheshire. I thoroughly enjoyed participating last year and I’m looking forward to meeting lots of other cyclists and soaking up the gorgeous scenery on route. There is a fantastic atmosphere at these events with a huge range for people taking part for all sorts of reasons, from raising money for a great cause like Macmillan to keeping fit.”

Louise continued:

“The range of distances enable people to choose how challenging they want to make it for themselves. I’m going for a 50km distance this year – not the longest distance, but still a good, solid personal challenge. I can’t wait!”

Gillian Daly for organisers Human Race commented:

“We are thrilled that Louise is returning to Macmillan Cycletta this year to take on the Cheshire 50km route. We are looking forward to welcoming her, along with the many other ladies signing up to participate at the series of events this year. We want to encourage as many ladies as possible to, like Louise, get out on their bikes for Macmillan Cycletta. Some cycling events can feel intimidating, particularly if you haven’t been on a bike for years and that’s exactly what Macmillan Cycletta aims to change.

“The event is inclusive of all women, regardless of cycling experience or ability. Not only will you have a great day out in the scenic British countryside, but you will be helping to raise funds for people affected by cancer.”

The Macmillan Cycletta website offers a host of information on training, race day advice and bike maintenance. There is also an active Cycletta blog, Twitter (@cycletta) and www.facebook.com/cycletta resources to encourage participants to stay up-to-date with the latest news and developments. Macmillan Cycletta is part of the Human Race Women Only series which includes triathlon, swimming, running and cycling events.

Louise will be cycling the 50km route at Tatton Park, Macmillan Cycletta Cheshire on Sunday 27th September 2015.
