Easy Bean release their Top Ten Beans for health and vitality

The meals company, Easy Bean, is known for its hand prepared, premium foods. The meals are designed to improve the health of the nation by encouraging them to eat more beans.

Currently there are six separate meals that are being created by the company and they are available at Waitrose or Booths supermarkets. Alternatively you can find them online at either www.naturalgrocery.co.uk, www.waitrose.co.uk or www.ocado.com.

The company have also recently released something called the bean Top Ten, which focuses on promoting both pulses as well as beans as part of a healthy diet.

Christina Baskerville, MD of Easy Bean and the ‘Queen of Beans’ says:  “We have a ten point plan to get everyone to understand the true importance of the bean. We all love Baked Beans in the UK but there are so many other varieties and they do us and the planet so much good.”

The top ten reasons to choose beans and pulses are:

1. Pulses and beans have more protein than any other vegetable ingredient.

2. They are high in fibre, soluble and insoluble. Soluble fibre helps to lower cholesterol. Insoluble fibre improves digestive health.

3. Beans and pulses are complex carbohydrates with a low Gi index. This means they take longer to digest, leaving you feeling fuller for longer.

4. They are low in fat.

5. They are a good source of energy-boosting iron.

6. An 80g portion of cooked beans counts as one of your five-a-day.

7. Beans are a source of natural phytoestrogens (increasingly seen as having health benefits) and isoflavonoids, found in pea plants, are used for the relief of menopausal symptoms.

8. Legumes such as beans and pulses put goodness back into the soil as they grow.

9. Growing pulses uses far less of the world’s natural resources than meat or dairy production.

10. Protein from cereals such as wheat or rice compliments the proteins in pulses to help give a balanced diet.

Easy Bean was established in 2007 by farmer’s daughter Christina. Her meals, inspired by her work with bean farmers in different countries around the world, promise ‘Lunch on the go or supper in a mo’.

Christina adds: “We prepare Easy Bean meals in small batches in our Somerset kitchen using the finest natural ingredients. Our meals are as tasty as they are healthy.”
