How to get your New Year resolutions back on track

By this time of the year most people have failed with their New Year’s resolutions which they made to lose weight. If this has happened to you then it might be time to rethink the strategy you are using to keep the pounds off. The nutritionist, Michelle Gelok has some advice for those who want to take the weight off, and keep it off.

One of the most important things she says is setting realistic goals. Many people try to lose too much waiting to quick a time and this can not just be unhealthy, but it can be demotivating when you fail to achieve your goals.

The NHS states that the most a person should lose per week is one kilogram, and that the optimal amount is somewhere between this and 500 grams. It is also important to remember that if you lose weight too fast, you are likely to fail at your diet and put the weight back on in the long-term.

Gelok also states that one of the reason people fail at weight loss so easily is because they are unaware of the number of calories that liquid items contain. Many people will drink a beverage that has a high calorie content without realising it and because the beverage is less satisfying than a meal, they will soon want to consume another one.

Skipping breakfast, or other meals, is an often implemented way people focus on losing weight. However, they don’t realise that breakfast is a good way to stabilise the blood sugar levels in your body. This will help control your appetite throughout the day meaning that you won’t binge in between meals. Studies in the past have consistently shown that those who eat breakfast are generally bigger than those who don’t, by an average of five centimetres.
